Dr. L's allergy story: I was also an allergy sufferer who couldn't sleep at night because of the itching.

Many people ask me, "Doctor, can allergies be cured completely?"

Three years ago, my answer would probably have been the same as most doctors: it could only be controlled.
At this point, people usually ask, "But doctor, isn't your allergy better now?"
And then I will tell you my story in detail...✍️

🩺【That childhood filled with tissue fluid and blood】

From my earliest memories since elementary school, my body has been covered in eczema (more commonly known as atopic dermatitis). The back of my knees, ankles, elbows, groin, waist, chest and abdomen, neck, behind my ears... even skin without folds, all common and uncommon areas, were covered in eczema. Back then, I didn't know anything. When it itched, I would scratch, and when it itched, I would continue scratching until it hurt, until the pain overwhelmed the itch. But often, by then, the skin was no longer just a rash, but broken pieces of skin oozing tissue fluid and streaked with blood. I remember in a childhood medical advertisement, there was a cow scratching itself against a wall. As a child, I would jokingly tell everyone, "I can do that too!"

What frustrates me is that, besides skin allergies, I also have a constantly runny nose and endless sneezing, and my eyes are always itchy, so I rub them. What's even more discouraging is that I have a severe allergy to shellfish! No matter how fresh the lobster, crab, or shrimp (even if they're freshly caught), if I eat them, or even just drink a small sip of the soup next to them, my throat will itch and my lips will swell up like two little sausages... So, for me, eating banquets with everyone when I was a child was particularly bittersweet, because the most luxurious dishes at these old-fashioned banquets were lobster salad, seafood soup, and red crab/sakura shrimp rice, while I could only watch and drool...

💊【Visiting numerous renowned doctors, only to receive "relief" in the end】

At that time, my parents took me to hospitals all over the country, both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine, for treatment. My daily life was filled with various medications, drinks, and ointments. My mother insisted on cooking every meal herself, just to alleviate my allergies (yes, just alleviate, not expect a cure). The variety of special supplements at home was countless… But did my allergy symptoms actually improve at that time? The answer is: "No." In fact, by puberty, I started experiencing intense heat and sweating, and the symptoms became even more severe…

🚶‍♂️【A Glimmer of Light at the End of the Tunnel】

"Doctor, how did your allergy get better?"

Dr. L's allergy symptoms truly felt cured around the time he was about to graduate from university. In between, he experienced severe, chronic allergies for at least 15 years. Honestly, looking back, it was an extremely slow process of change, like walking through a completely dark tunnel, the helplessness of being inside with no end in sight perfectly describing that period. I know I am lucky; finally, my allergies were cured completely.

But was it the treatment from Traditional Chinese Medicine or Western medicine that cured me? As a long-time patient, I don't think so. It's more likely a lucky victory achieved through numerous different adjustments. Looking back from my current perspective as a doctor, Dr. L's assessment of the so-called 50% cure rate (possibly an overestimation) and prevalence rate (more likely an underestimation) of chronic allergies in traditional Chinese and Western medicine is really no different from flipping a coin…

This is Dr. L's personal story, and it's why I want to tell you, who are reading this article and suffering from allergies, "I understand." And more importantly, I want to tell you, "Allergies will get better."
However, it is not using traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment methods.
